“The Ring of Fire” refers to a line of volcanoes and earthquake-prone tectonic areas lining the Pacific Ocean. During this Homeschool Day, students will explore the geology of this and other awe-inspiring features of our planet. Through engaging activities and demonstrations, participants will learn about the powerful forces behind earthquakes, volcanoes and tsunamis.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]

What Students Will Explore

Ages 6-8

Our youngest age group will discover the inner workings of volcanic activity and use an interactive world map to view the effects of volcanic formation over millions of years etched in stone, then they will let their creativity erupt as they learn more about how these awesome forces of nature are immortalized in art from cultures around the world.

Ages 9-11

This class will dig deeper into the science behind volcanoes, including the often referenced Yellowstone “supereruption” that is bound to happen in the very near future. We will also take a look at how volcanoes have shaped cultures around the world, including ancient Greece and the islands of Hawaii.

 Ages 12-17

This class will analyze the root causes of volcanoes and broader mountain formation, digging into plate tectonics by taking a look at the way Earth (and life on it) has been impacted in myriad ways by the colossal movement of the ground beneath our feet. [/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]
