Our keynote speaker\, Dr. Mark McCloud\, Vice Chancellor for Access and Engagement at the University of Tennessee at Martin\, will share his perspective on building inclusive communities and carrying forward Dr. King’s dream in today’s world. \nThe Discovery Park Community Choir\, a newly formed group of singers and musicians from throughout our region\, will fill the space with a moving performance celebrating hope\, equality and peace. \nAfter the program\, families can participate in hands-on activities inspired by Dr. King’s most memorable quotes and take part in a special educational session exploring Dr. King’s relationships with other key civil rights leaders of the mid-20th century. \nAs the only federal holiday dedicated to national service\, MLK Day invites us all to give back. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.\, local community service and volunteer organizations will be on-site to help guests discover meaningful ways to get involved and make a difference. Visitors are also encouraged to bring canned goods to support local food banks.  Free admission to the 2026 King Day celebration is available for all. \nAs part of the 2026 King Day celebration\, Discovery Park will host a Student Essay Competition open to students at Obion County Central\, Union City and South Fulton\, as well as homeschoolers in grades 9 to 12. The top three essays will be announced during the program\, with prizes awarded to first-\, second- and third-place winners. The submission deadline is Jan. 15\, 2026. Guests are encouraged to join us for our February Astronomy Night\, which will now serve as the first Passport to the Universe program of 2026. \n… \nJoin Dr. Lionel Crews from the University of Tennessee at Martin Astronomy Department and the Discovery Park education team on the Great Lawn for a special evening of stargazing. Jupiter will be at opposition\, which happens once a year when Earth passes between the Sun and Jupiter\, making the planet appear its largest and brightest in the night sky. While Jupiter can be seen with the naked eye\, binoculars or a telescope will reveal its moons and cloud bands. \nPlease follow the signs and park on the north side of the parking lot. Both are closed on Thanksgiving Day\, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.\n\nWalk-Thru:Adults: $10 for nonmembers and $7 for membersChildren (4-17): $53 and Under: FREEDogs on a leash: $5News this Year – Unlimited Season Pass:Adults (with ID): $40Children (4-17): $20\n\nDrive-Thru:$20 per vehicle for non-members$10 per vehicle for members\n\nNew this Year:Unlimited Season Pass: $100 Per Vehicle\n\nThe Drive-thru will feature more than a million lights twinkling along with popular Christmas songs\, allowing guests to get a unique look at the 199-foot-tall Discovery Center\, the settlement of log cabins and more\, all decorated for the holidays.\n\nThe “Let It Glow” Walk-thru will take place on the north side of the park\, which will once again be transformed into the “North Pole.” The size of the Walk-thru has doubled this year\, so leave plenty of time to explore. Guests will take a stroll through the Settlement\, Japanese Garden\, European Garden and Mill Ridge\, which will all be transformed into a glowing winter wonderland with plenty of opportunities for taking photographs. Once guests arrive at Mill Ridge\, they will find a shop with local handmade gifts for sale\, an area in the Smithy for children to write letters to Santa and\, new this year\, a large display of more than 150 nutcrackers on loan from Edith Adcock of Martin\, Tennessee. Adcock received her first nutcracker as a gift for her 16th birthday and has been collecting them for more than 45 years. As you travel along through the Settlement\, you will be able to view the outdoor portion of our new “Duck\, Duck\, Goose: Waterfowl of the Mississippi Flyway” exhibit and you can stop at Eats and Treats where select food and beverages are available for purchase.\n\nVisit with Mr. and Mrs. Claus at Let it Glow Walk-thru\nDiscover the magic of Christmas with Mr. and Mrs. Claus on select dates on November and December of 2024.
